Job Description

Albion College invites applications for an appointment in Physics at the visiting assistant professor level to begin in January 2021, with possible extension in January 2022 for additional semesters. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to a campus climate that supports equality and diversity. Candidates are expected to have a PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field and be able to teach an introductory level astronomy course with labs; an intermediate calculus-based Astrophysics course with labs; and some additional physics courses. ABD candidates will be considered. We seek candidates that have demonstrated teaching excellence and experience with or willingness to learn about remote teaching techniques. The College currently teaches some classes in-person and some in a combination of in-person and remote, but may shift to online teaching if circumstances require it. Albion College has a strong undergraduate research program that provides summer research stipends for students and modest stipends for faculty. The College also has a Faculty Development funding program to which visiting faculty can apply. The department has two observatories, one with a historic 8.25” Alvan Clark refractor, and the other with a 14” Celestron.  In addition there are three 10” and one 11” pier-mounted Meades and Celestron telescopes.

Applicants should submit an application, including cover letter, current CV, teaching evaluations, a research paper, contact information for at least three letters of reference, and a copy of graduate transcript through Interfolio: https://apply.interfolio.com/80281. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is filled. For questions about the position or search, please contact Nicolle Zellner ([email protected]), Department Chair.
