The Astronomy Institute of Universidad Católica del Norte (IA-UCN) is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, and qualified astronomer/astrophysicist for a tenure track position in astronomy. Applicants must have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or a closely related field. The starting date is flexible, but expected around March 2019.
As member of the Chilean community, the new faculty will have privileged access to all astronomical facilities in Chile, including Paranal, La Silla, E-ELT, Gemini-South, Las Campanas, CTIO, SOAR, ASTE, APEX, ALMA. In addition, ongoing and under development agreements with international organizations offer IA-UCN members exclusive access to more world-class facilities, such as the 1m telescope at La Silla and the facilities that will be installed at Cerro Ventarrones site in the near future.
The successful candidate is expected to strongly contribute to the growth of the Institute. He/she will carry out independent research programs, creating and leading a local research group including students and postdoctoral fellows. In addition, he/she is expected to direct undergraduate and doctoral thesis, and to teach between one and three courses at undergraduate/graduate level each year.
