PhD position: The Star Formation History of the Milky Way

Applications are invited for a three-year PhD position at the Paris/Meudon Observatory working on the scientific exploitation of the WEAVE spectroscopic survey. The successful applicant will work on the determination of the Star Formation History the Milky Way using large spectroscopic surveys combined with the Gaia data. 

Research activities of our group focus on Galactic chemical and dynamical evolution, globular clusters, accretion history of the Milky Way, pristine stars.  We are one of the leading groups in Galactic astronomy. Our laboratory is strongly involved in the Gaia mission and the WEAVE and MOONS  spectroscopic surveys. This PhD project is part of a larger collaborative effort between the Paris, Nice and Strasbourg observatories on the scientific exploitation of the WEAVE project, supported by the ANR (the French National Research Agency). The successful applicant will have the opportunity to interact directly with all members of the collaboration (MWdisc project, PI G.Kordopatis, local PI : M. Haywood). 

Requirements:  A MSc degree in astronomy, astrophysics.  Experience in scientific programming with Python and knowledge in statistics will be considered as a plus.
