Post doc position on galaxy evolution in clusters
Job Summary
Job Description
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Galaxy evolution in clusters (Post doc position - D.D. 557/2023) at the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF), Padova Observatory.
The successful applicant will work in the extragalactic group in Padova and join the international GASP (https://web.oapd.inaf.it/gasp/index.html) team. He/she will mainly exploit MUSE data to characterise the effect of ram pressure stripping on spiral galaxies, establishing how often this mechanism produces unwinding arms. Comparisons with data at different wavelengths and with simulations (zoom-in and/or hydrodynamical) will help better understanding the nature of the unwinding arms.
A fraction of the time will be available for independent research, and independent collaborations are encouraged.
The position is offered for 1 year, renewable depending on fund availability, with anticipated starting date on March 2024, negotiable.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact Dr. Benedetta Vulcani ([email protected]) for additional information.
The official call for applications, along with all the required documents, can be found at:
https://amministrazione.oapd.inaf.it/albo
Experience in MUSE/VLT data analysis and/or simulations will be a plus.
The annual salary will be 30,000 EUR (income tax does not apply to this type of contract) which is more than adequate for local costs of living. Travel funds are also available.
The deadline for application is January 10, 2024.
INAF is an equal opportunity employer and women and minorities are encouraged to apply
