Job Description

Ball State University’s Department of Physics & Astronomy invites applications from individuals who can contribute through their research, teaching, and service to the growth of our department.  This position is a one year contract faculty position available beginning August 2019 with the possibility of renewal.

Primary responsibilities include teaching full-time (12 credit hours) lectures and laboratory courses primarily in the areas of introductory physics, astronomy, and/or physics education for pre-service elementary education majors. In addition, the candidate may teach upper level undergraduate courses, graduate-level courses where qualifications match departmental needs, and be expected to contribute intellectual and professional service to the department.

Minimum qualifications:  A master of science in physics, physics education, science education (with an emphasis in physics), astronomy, astrophysics, or related field from an accredited institution, and completed by date of employment.  One year teaching experience at the college level gained concurrently or at any time.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred qualifications: PhD in physics, physics education, science education (with an emphasis in physics), astronomy, astrophysics or related field at the time of application. Experience teaching introductory physics and/or astronomy courses for majors, non-majors, and/or pre-service elementary education majors. A strong commitment to the teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. Effective communication skills in both the classroom and laboratory setting, with three or more years of successful post-secondary teaching experience.
