Job Announcement Text:

ALMA is a partnership of East Asia, Europe, and North America in cooperation with the Republic of Chile. The NAOJ ALMA Project, in collaboration with the NAOJ Division of Science, invites applications for two Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions to carry out cutting-edge science and to support the operation of ALMA.

One of the positions is a general ALMA project research fellow, who will carry out his/her own research and spend up to 25 % of his/her time to jobs requested by the project.

The other is a joint project position aimed at conducting research in galaxy formation and evolution in collaboration with Dr. Peter Behroozi (Division of Science) and Dr. Jorge Zavala (ALMA Project). The researcher is expected to work on the development of an empirical method to self-consistently combine multi-epoch and multi-waveband data (including SDSS, HST, JWST, and ALMA data) for obtaining a fully physical, self-consistent picture of galaxy stellar masses and star formation histories from z=0 to 10 and beyond. A fraction of the time can also be dedicated to other related projects. This fellow is expected to spend up to 25 % of his/her time to jobs requested by the ALMA project.

We welcome candidates who are eager to collaborate with researchers at NAOJ as well as the broader East Asia community members. The successful candidate is expected to be engaged in the ALMA science operations (e.g. data reduction, software development, user support on generating observing procedures and help desk), or development (hardware or software) at a level of 25% of their effort. In addition, the successful candidate will be involved in promoting scientific activities such as organization and support of science workshops. the successful candidate will receive mentoring and career advice for their chosen path, and will receive, if desired, support to refine their skills in writing/communication, leadership, outreach, inclusion, and mentoring junior colleagues.

The successful candidate is expected to start the job as early as possible after April 1st, 2023. The term of employment will be three years after the appointment starts, including the probation period of six months.
