Announcement
Job Announcement Text:

The Physics Institute at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) is looking to sponsor applicants for the FONDECYT Postdoctoral Fellowship program to work with our Astrophysics group. The fellowships are funded by the Chilean agency ANID, and run for up to 3 years with a starting date of April 2022 or soon after. Per FONDECYT rules, this call is restricted to applicants having obtained, or expecting to obtain, their PhD between January 1, 2018, and August 26, 2021.

The Astrophysics group is a recent addition to the Physics faculty of PUCV, focusing on extragalactic astrophysics, star-formation in nearby galaxies, large-scale structure, the intergalactic medium, fast radio bursts, the high redshift universe and observational cosmology. We are looking to expand and seek motivated researchers working in these fields. Successful applicants will have access to the time guaranteed to Chilean institutions on all observing facilities based in the country (including VLT, ALMA, Gemini-South, Magellan, APEX, SOAR, ASTE, La Silla, CTIO, etc.) as well as the university's computing cluster. There is also the option to work in projects at international collaborations where PUCV faculty members are involved, including ACT, CAVITY, CLASH-VLT, CRAFT, F^4, KiDS, LSST, Simons Observatory, SDSS-IV/MaNGA, and SDSS-V. Host to a growing number of research institutions, the city of Valparaíso is becoming a reference node for extragalactic astrophysics and observational cosmology in Chile. Our Physics Institute is based on the Curauma campus of PUCV in Valparaíso, and ~1h drive from Santiago. PUCV is an equal-opportunity employer and offers generous incentives for research.

Interested applicants should send the following documents to [email protected] by August 10, 2021:

    - curriculum vitae with list of publications

- research statement (max. 3 pages)

- one-page cover letter indicating:

- PhD award (or expected) date

- name of possible faculty sponsor at PUCV

- 2 reference letters, sent directly by the writers

The selected candidate(s) will then be sponsored by a PUCV faculty member and work with them to complete the application process. Please note that this is a two-step process, with selection by PUCV not guaranteeing selection by FONDECYT. We encourage interested applicants to get in touch with María Argudo-Fernández ([email protected]), Raphaël Gobat ([email protected]), Cristóbal Sifón ([email protected]), Nicolás Tejos ([email protected]), and/or Jorge Noreña ([email protected]) for further information.
