The operational duties in Euclid consists of work within the OU-EXT (external surveys operational unit). In this task, we are building and using pipelines to integrate ground based survey data to the Euclid data base. This task will take ~40% of the working hours. In addition to the OU-EXT work package, we are active in the science working groups of Euclid. In those, we are preparing the science of Euclid, focusing especially to the dwarf galaxy science. The applicant can use ~20% of the working time in the science work within Euclid. The remaining hours can be spent between other research projects, teaching and other duties, based on the interests of the applicant.

The research group

The astronomy group in Oulu does research on galaxies, interacting binary stars, and planetary rings. In galaxy science, the group has been part of several large collaborations like S4G and  the FDS. In the last years, the main areas of research have been the evolution of dwarf galaxies, ultra diffuse galaxies and low surface brightness features.

In Euclid, we are responsible for integrating ground-based survey data (coming from CFHT, HSC, and PanSTARRS) to the Euclid data base. In addition to the operational role, we are also part of the Local Universe science working group.

Finland is part of ESO and Oulu is also funding the Nordic optical Telescope at La Palma (Canary islands, Spain). Thus, these telescopes provide great possibilities to gather new data.

The research group in Oulu provides supportive environment with good expertise in the galaxy research, and access to Euclid and other archival datasets. The group is a good work environment for a researcher who wants to perform galaxy research with the large legacy and upcoming Euclid datasets and is interested to spend part of the working time in the Euclid team.
