Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computational Galaxy Formation

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Computational Galaxy Formation to work with Prof. Sadegh Khochfar at the Institute for Astronomy, which is part of the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh.

The primary research goal of this position is to advance our understanding of galaxy formation during the first few billion years of the Universe using numerical simulations. We are particularly keen on modelling/simulating the effects of UV radiation, black holes and the first stars on the formation and evolution of galaxies. The successful candidate will work together with Prof. Khochfar on a variety of projects pursued in his group, including a set of new high redshift simulations, depending on their research experience and interests. They will also have the opportunity to develop their own research projects with access to a wide range of simulation data, simulation tools and computational resources.

Applicants with a background in computational astrophysics of galaxy formation are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have completed all requirements for a PhD in astronomy by the position start date.

The grant runs from April 2024 for three years. Later starts and corresponding extensions beyond April 2027 are possible.
