A Ph.D. in astronomy / astrophysics or a closely related field is required. The ideal candidate should have prior postdoctoral experience, be under 45 years of age, and within 5 years of their PhD graduation date.

The research activities should focus on observational or theoretical high-energy and multi-wavelength astrophysics. The postdoc will work with prof. Christo Venter on modelling of broadband pulsar, pulsar binary, and pulsar wind nebula emission, as well as observational / theoretical work on pulsars and fast radio bursts. The CSR’s Pulsar Group has links with H.E.S.S., CTA, Fermi LAT, SALT, and MeerKAT projects.

Institutional expectations include:

  • publication of 4 refereed journal papers p.a.
  • co-supervision of at least 1 M.Sc. or Ph.D. student p.a.
  • participation in grant proposal writing - at least one submission p.a.
  • a moderate amount of administration.

Applicants should send a CV, publication list, summary of past research, research plan to [email protected] and organize and 3 referee letters to be sent to the same email address no later than 28 February 2024. The position will start on 1 May 2024 or soon thereafter.
