Announcement
Job Announcement Text:

The TITANs Millennium Nucleus (titans.cl) seeks a two year postdoc, with the possibility of extension and/or other longer term fellowships. TITANs focusses on black hole formation, growth, and imaging the inner environs of black holes with the  Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) and other VLBI arrays. We seek to extend the transformational science of M87 and SgrA* to dozens (and up to hundreds with the next-generation EHT) of nearby AGNs which can be imaged at better than 100 gravitational radii, and possibly resolve additional black hole rings. Observational work is complemented with state-of-the-art numerical simulations.

The TITANs team encompasses ten professors, 6 postdocs, and 30 Ph.D. and Masters students across four universities in Chile. The hired postdoc, based at the University of Concepcion (UdeC), will be incorporated into the EHT Collaboration and will work on EHT+ALMA, Global Millimeter VLBI Array (GMVA) + ALMA, and other interferometric imaging and analysis of (already observed, plus newly approved) EHT Collaboration projects led by TITANs. While previous VLBI experience is a plus, we are open to other radio interferometric experience.

UdeC, the largest Chilean University outside Santiago, is set in a large, beautiful, and open campus, and hosts a highly international Astronomy Department. The position provides a competitive salary, travel support, and a stimulating research environment. The postdoc will have access to the 10% Chilean observing time on telescopes including ALMA, APEX, Gemini-South, Magellan, and VLT.

TITANs actively seeks to balance gender and minority presence. Applicants requiring part time employment to share time with caring responsibilities are encouraged. Flexible working hours, and partial work-at-home or tele-commuting are also open to discussion. Please contact P. Arevalo ([email protected]) for details.

Interested applicants should send a CV with publication list, statements of previous (2 pages) and proposed (1 page) research, as well as contact information for three references, to [email protected]. We encourage applicants to contact the most relevant team members (Nagar, Venkatessh Ramakrishnan and Dhanya Nair) ahead of submission. Applications will be reviewed starting October 1, 2022, and continue until the positions are filled. The starting date is flexible.
