Job Description

In order to further expand its world-class faculty and respond to the needs of the growing fields of optics, the James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona is proud to announce a faculty search for the Robert R. Shannon Endowed Chair in Optical Sciences.

Salary for this position is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Applications are invited from junior, mid-career, and senior candidates. This tenure/tenure-track position anticipates demonstrated strength in the area of optical engineering, including:

  • Cultivating a world-class research program in optical engineering.
  • Establishing a strong teaching record in optical engineering.
  • Participating in both undergraduate and graduate education.
  • Participating in service and outreach for the College.

Preferred candidates will demonstrate a record of innovation and strength in optical design and instrumentation, with a broad variety of potential application areas including space or astronomical optics, optical metrology, infrared systems, consumer optics, and optics in manufacturing.
