Postdoctoral position in Stellar Evolution and Interactions in Multiples
Job Summary
Job Description
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at the Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy (API) at the University of Amsterdam Netherlands (UvA) to work in Silvia Toonen’s group on stellar evolution, interactions and transients. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar who is interested in advancing the novel research field of triple star evolution.
The successful applicant will contribute to several current research programs using modelling and observations to probe the outcomes of triple evolution. The multidisciplinary program bridges research areas such as stellar and binary evolution, gravitational wave progenitors, massive stars and stellar dynamics. In this position the PD will use and advance an array of tools dedicated to probe interacting triples and learn more about their nature, origins, and potential as gravitational wave sources. The Postdoctoral Scholar will primarily work on projects from the NWO-VIDI grant (“TRI-Waves; the formation of gravitational wave sources from triple-star systems”) and will have the opportunity to join existing other projects.
The contract will be a 2+1 yr contract, with the renewal for a third year contingent upon satisfactory progress. Salary and full benefits follow the Dutch labour agreements, see https://www.vsnu.nl/en_GB/cao-universiteiten.html. The preferred starting date of July 2022 is negotiable. More information about the institute can be found here: https://api.uva.nl.
Application should provide in pdf: (1) CV vitae with publication list, (2) contact details of three referees, and (3) statement of research experience and interests. Applicants should arrange for 3 letters of reference. Applications can be submitted through https://vacatures.uva.nl/UvA/job/Postdoctoral-position-in-Stellar-Evolution-and-Interactions-in-Multiples/737334802/
Compensation and Benefits
Vacation money and end of year bonus (together 16%, added in yearly minimum salary) and payments to retirement fund. A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants.
