Assistant Professor of Astronomy, Position 83815, University of Hawai`i at Hilo, tenure-track, general funds, full-time, nine-month appointment to begin approximately January 2017, pending position clearance and funding.
The successful applicant will teach astronomy and physics courses at the college level, engage in research, and participate in service at UHH. The successful applicant will be eligible to apply for preferential observing time with Mauna Kea Observatories (MKO). Our location near the `Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawai`i and seven MKO headquarters provides opportunities for scientific and educational collaborations.
Duties: The successful applicant will teach lower- and upper-level undergraduate courses (astronomy and physics lectures and/or laboratories), engage in astronomy /science-education research, and participate in community and University-wide service.
Minimum qualifications: Doctoral-level degree at the time of appointment from an accredited university in astronomy, physics, or closely related field. Current publication record in astronomy, physics, or science-education related research. Teaching experience in astronomy/physics at the college level.
