The Prize Fellowship is to begin in the Fall 2023 and offers an opportunity for outstanding recent and new Ph.D. recipients to perform research at Caltech for three years. They are selected by a faculty committee at Caltech representing all areas of observational astronomy and data science, and are provided with:

  • flexibility, support, and freedom in choosing research direction within astronomy and astrophysics (including but not limited to exoplanets, time-domain astronomy, extragalactic astronomy, stellar astronomy, multi-messenger astrophysics, data science, machine learning, algorithms),
  • an inclusive environment with faculty mentorship and activities organized to promote scientific exchanges and professional growth, and
  • an annual salary and an annual research fund that are comparable to those of other prestigious fellowships.

Applicants whose primary focus is theoretical astrophysics should apply to the Burke Institute Prize Fellowships, and those whose primary focus is experimental astrophysics and/or instrumentation should apply to the Prize Fellowships in Experimental Physics or Astrophysics.
