The Department of Astronomy at New Mexico State University seeks applications for the position of Astronomy Laboratory/Observatory Manager.

Job duties include overseeing the improvement, development, and implementation of laboratory exercises conducted as part of the Department's general education courses; management of on-campus
Tombaugh Observatory facilities for use in education; assistance in management and operations of the Tortugas Mountain Observatory and the NMSU 1-m telescope at Apache Point Observatory; and assistance with IT support in the Department.

Specific duties include management of materials used in conducting the labs, determination of resupply of new items as required, assistance in preparing and setup for labs, training of graduate students and
faculty in proper use of the observatory facilities, maintenance of the hardware (telescopes, domes, computers), including assessing when replacement of the hardware is required. The assistance with the
operations of the Tortugas Observatory and the NMSU 1-m telescope includes maintenance and support, as well as planning and implementation for sustainable and productive use of these facilities. IT support in the department involves installation of hardware, management and updates of astronomy-related software.

Requirements include a Master's Degree in astronomy or related field and one year of experience related to the duties as described. Good communication skills for interaction with and training of faculty,
graduate teaching assistants, and undergraduate students are essential for this position. Experience in working with telescope and computer hardware is desired.
