The CERC Postdoctoral Fellow in HI Surveys and Galaxy Evolution will work on the open science questions in the field of ISM processes and galaxy evolution that will be furthered by the upcoming SKA-era surveys. Specifically, the focus of this position is aimed at studying the HI properties of low-redshift galaxies using observations from the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) WALLABY survey. Active engagement and participation in the ASKAP spectral line commissioning science teams is strongly encouraged.

Essential selection criteria include:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as Astronomy and Astrophysics. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (or part-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in radio interferometry and synthesis imaging.
  • Experience working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, potentially regionally dispersed research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
  • Interest in (or experience with) working closely with cross-disciplinary data scientists or deep learning experts to investigate and develop new methods for enabling science using the upcoming generation of radio surveys and datasets.
  • High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including the presentation of research outcomes at national and international conferences.
  • A sound history of publication in peer reviewed journals and/or authorship of scientific papers and reports.
