Job Description

The Astrophysics department at CEA-Saclay and the Centre de Recherche Astrophysiques de Lyon (CRAL) are opening a joint postdoctoral position on numerical astrophysics to begin no later than October 2019.  The position is for 3 years and shared between CEA-Saclay and CRAL-Lyon and the postdoc is expected to split her/his time roughly equally between the CEA-Saclay and CRAL.

The successful applicant will carry out original research on numerical simulations of galaxy formation/evolution, either independently or in collaboration with staff at the host institutions. We seek candidates with outstanding research accomplishments and prospect of future achievement. Preference will be given to researchers working in areas in which CEA and CRAL have active and overlapping research interests, such as feedback processes or galactic winds, inflows from the cosmic web, angular momentum build up and the circum-galactic medium (CGM) around star-forming galaxies as the position is part of a collaborative (ANR-funded) project focused on these topics.

The successful applicant should have a PhD in astrophysics at the time of the appointment. She/he is expected to work in a collaborative framework and to contribute to the realization, analysis, and interpretation of numerical simulations. Our group has access to top-end supercomputers in France and Europe with tens of millions of CPU hours granted each year, as well as local facilities and support for code development and data analysis. Our groups gather several experts in state-of-the-art numerical simulations (Blaizot, Bournaud, Rosdahl) and has strong synergies with several observational programs (led by Nicolas Bouché, Emanuele Daddi, Johan Richard and their groups),  with on-going surveys at VLT/MUSE, ALMA and IRAM on these issues.

Additional funding for conferences, collaborations, personal equipment and publications is available.

Applicants should send a CV, a list of publications, and a research statement to [email protected] and [email protected], and arrange for 3 reference letters to be sent to the same address no later than December 15th.

CEA and CRAL are equal opportunity employers and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability status.
