Job Description

The Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a term faculty appointment for Academic Year 2022-2023. Rank will be dependent on experience and stature in the field. The appointment is a 9-month term position and will commence on August 29, 2022.

Qualified applicants will have a PhD in physics, astronomy, or another closely related field, on or before August 2022. The successful candidate will be committed to teaching and advising students, mentoring undergraduate research, and participating in department, college, and university events and service. Position duties include teaching the equivalent of six undergraduate courses per Academic Year. There are opportunities to participate in or lead efforts in strengthening diversity, equity, and inclusion in the department and university, to expand course offerings in astronomy or astrophysics, and to develop cross-disciplinary initiatives including (but not limited to) science and public policy, data and computational sciences, and biophysics.
