The Department of Physics and Astronomy (physics.cofc.edu) at the College of Charleston has an opening for one or more Visiting Assistant Professor positions for the 2023-24 academic year. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field and must be able to accept legal employment in the United States by August 15, 2023. Renewal of this position is contingent upon satisfactory performance evaluations and subject to availability of funds. In addition to teaching introductory astronomy and/or physics courses, ideal candidates would be able to teach an upper-level observational astronomy course and/or mentor undergraduate student research projects in astronomy or astrophysics. Candidates uncomfortable teaching observational astronomy but with a strong astronomy/astrophysics teaching background are still encouraged to apply.
Qualified applicants should submit 1) a cover letter, 2) a complete curriculum vitae, 3) a statement describing their teaching experience and philosophy, and 4) the names, addresses, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers of three professional references electronically through our online application system at https://jobs.cofc.edu/. Any questions should be directed to the search committee chair, Dr. Mike Larsen at [email protected]. Review of applications will begin on June 11, 2023, and continue until the position is filled.
