Job Announcement Text:

The newly established NSF Hub N3AS – Network for Neutrinos, Nuclear Astrophysics, and Symmetries (see https://n3as.wordpress.com) – intends to make 2-3 postdoctoral fellow appointments for positions starting in fall 2018. N3AS is a multi-institutional collaboration linking eleven institutions: U. California Berkeley, U. California San Diego, U. Kentucky, Los Alamos National Laboratory, U. Minnesota, North Carolina State U., Northwestern U., Notre Dame U., Ohio U., U. Washington, and U. Wisconsin. N3AS research focuses on theory issues in neutrino and nuclear astrophysics; dense matter including the modeling of supernovae, neutron stars, and neutron star mergers; nucleosynthesis; and dark matter.

Successful applicants will spend two years resident at a host site, followed by a third year at one of the three N3AS centers (UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, U. Washington/INT). All appointments are made through UC Berkeley. The available host sites for the current search are Kentucky, Minnesota, Northwestern, Notre Dame, and Ohio University. The three-year appointments (depending on satisfactory performance) have an initial salary of $63K and include travel allowances, as well as modest relocation allowances.

Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. (on or after September 2015) in theoretical physics or astronomy and the ability to work productively within a diverse and collaborative research environment, producing and publishing original research, and defending that research effectively in seminars and scientific meetings.

Requested application materials: Please submit your CV, a publication list, a statement of research interest, and arrange for three letters of reference. In the research statement, please indicate the topics and N3AS institutions (sites and centers) that might be of interest to you, based on the descriptions found on the Network’s web site. Materials should be submitted online at AJO.

To ensure full consideration, interested candidates are requested to submit their applications before the deadline of December 10, 2017.

For further inquiries please contact Wick Haxton (haxton [at] berkeley [dot] edu). Fellow benefits packages will be continuous over the three-year appointments, provided through UC Berkeley. UC Berkeley is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, or protected veteran status.
