Job Announcement Text:

The University of Milan (Italy) invites expressions of interest for postdoctoral positions in planet formation.

Successful candidates will join Prof. Stefano Facchini and his new-born group funded by the ERC Starting Grant UNVEIL and by a PRIN 2022 grant. The group is conducting forefront research in planet formation. Candidates with experience in both observations and/or theory in this field are welcome to apply. Research interests in the group focus on (but are not limited to) planet-disk interactions, astrochemistry, disk characterization. The group has a co-leadership position in (or participates to) large collaborative efforts at (sub-)mm, IR and optical wavelengths, such as the ALMA Large program exoALMA, and direct imaging campaigns with JWST and ground-based observatories.

Candidates will have ample opportunities to explore other areas of star and planet formation and will be encouraged to develop independent collaborations. If interested, candidates will have the opportunity to mentor graduate students who will be hired within the group.

Appointments will be for a three-year term and come with a competitive salary, and generous research and travel budget. The starting date is negotiable, and can be as early as May 2024. We regard diversity as an asset within a team, and welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences.

The astrophysics group at the University of Milan provides a vibrant environment, with several synergies among groups in the planet formation field. Other faculty members with similar interests are G. Lodato and G. Rosotti.

Applications should include a CV with a publication list and a three-page research statement covering past and future research interests. These should be sent as a single pdf file to [email protected] by December 22nd, 2023, for full consideration. Candidates should also indicate in the CV the contact details of three referees, who are willing to provide reference letters upon request.

Informal inquiries about the positions are welcome and should be sent to the same email address ([email protected]).
