Job Description

The National Astronomical Observatories of China, Beijing and the International Lunar Observatory Association of Kamuela, Hawai’i, request applications for Research Fellow for the NAOC / ILOA Lunar-based Ultraviolet Telescope (LUT) data reduction, processing, and utilization project. LUT is the first and only robotic telescope on the surface of the Moon, and is the only instrument on Chang’e-3 lander that is still functioning.

This Astronomy from the Moon fellowship aims to maximize science output from LUT operating on Chang’e-3 Moon lander since 2013 by:

  • Processing raw LUT data into products available for use by science community worldwide,
  • Conducting research using LUT, publishing at least 2 papers and presenting at conferences,
  • Promoting LUT and inviting proposals for observations with LUT leading to published results.

Duration: 2 years

Qualifications: PhD (or equivalent), English / Chinese language proficiency

Salary range: $60,000 annually
