We currently have a Laureate Fellowship available in our Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing. The purpose of this position is to perform fundamental research in pulsar astronomy and fast radio bursts as part of a team funded by the Australian Research Council as part of Professor Matthew Bailes’ Laureate Fellowship programme. Bailes’s team works closely with the University of Sydney on a massive upgrade of the old Mills Cross array, on pulsar timing with the PPTA, on the new MeerKAT telescope (Swinburne plays a leading role in the pulsar timing consortium MeerTime) and the use of Parkes for FRBs and SETI. His team often adapts instruments to do new science by building instrumentation or developing new signal processing techniques for CPUs/GPUs. Current team members are Dr. Adam Deller (UTMOST 2-D), Dr. Ryan Shannon (Timing and FRBs), Dr. Chris Flynn (Molonglo FRBs), Dr. Stefan Oslowski (Molonglo FRBs and Pulsar timing), Dr. Danny Price (SETI & FRBs), Dr. Daniel Reardon (Pulsar Timing) and Bailes is also the Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery – OzGrav.
