We are offering a two-year postdoc position in galaxy formation and evolution and numerical astrophysics at the University of La Serena (ULS, Chile). The selected candidate will work with Prof. Gómez and collaborators on a Gemini-ANID funded project to better understand galaxy formation and evolution. In particular, the focus will be on the study on the formation and evolution of the Intra Cluster Light in galaxy clusters and groups using state of the art numerical simulations.
The selected postdoc will benefit from our Partner Group with the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching, Germany, and will have guaranteed access to exciting new numerical and observational datasets, such as the Auriga simulations, S-PLUS, LSST and SDSS-V. Postdocs will have access to the 10% Chilean time in all professional observatories operating in Chile, including ALMA, Gemini-S, VLT and Magellan telescopes and are encouraged to lead their own projects. ULS is also a node of the new LACEGAL Network.
Our Department of Astronomy is in a state of expansion and currently has 11 Professors, 7 Postdocs and 29 graduate students. We are committed to maintaining a diverse and inclusive work environment. University of La Serena, which is located in a beautiful and touristic coastal city, is one of the most important Chilean public universities in Northern Chile, surrounded by large international observatories such as LCO, CTIO, Gemini South, SOAR, and some of the biggest astronomical projects in the world for the next decade, such as LSST, GMT and E-ELT.
