PhD position at Uppsala University
Job Summary
Job Description
Applications are invited a fully funded PhD studentship in astronomy and astrophysics at Uppsala University in Sweden. The PhD student will work together with supervisors in the atomic astrophysics group studying fundamental atomic structure, atomic processes including collisions and the interaction of radiation and matter, and the modelling of astrophysical gas and plasma out of equilibrium. The group further studies the implications of the gained knowledge in understanding astrophysical objects and environments, especially stars and their atmospheres, and the ejecta from supernovae and kilonovae, and their chemical composition, and thus on fundamental questions such as the origin of the chemical elements and the formation of the Milky Way. The work is predominantly theoretical and computational, but couples to astronomical observations, especially high-resolution spectra, and laboratory experiments, in particular at the DESIREE national facility.
