Visiting Research Fellow in AGN/star formation
Job Summary
Job Description
The Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences invites applications for an 8-month full-time Visiting Research Fellow program to study star-forming compact galaxies that exhibit possible signatures of active galactic nuclei. Our scientific goals are to better understand the role of star-forming galaxies in the Epoch of Re-Ionization and to characterize accretion processes around intermediate-mass black holes as possible precursors to super-massive black holes hosted in large galaxies.
We were recently awarded new observations of so-called “Blueberry" and "Green Pea” galaxies with the VLA and XMM-Newton. Thus, we are optimally looking for a candidate who is very experienced with radio interferometry, UV photometry/imaging and/or X-ray spectral analysis of faint targets. The candidate needs to be less than 7 years after the PhD degree in astronomy or physics. Our project provides a highly-competitive salary above the standards in Czechia for a postdoctoral researcher.
To apply, please send a motivation letter and CV to [email protected] before Dec 31, 2021. Please also ensure two letters of recommendation.
Expected start of the project: April 2022 (after this 8-month long project, it may be possible to prolong the stay of a postdoctoral researcher dependent upon the result of funding applications)
Compensation and Benefits
Paid holidays (25 days/year). Full health insurance.
