We invite applications for a three-year Research Fellow position working with Assoc. Prof. Yuan-Sen Ting's research group at the Australian National University. We welcome applicants working in any of the fields of interest to the research group, including natural language processing, computer vision (machine learning) and/or stellar astrophysics, galaxy formation, cosmology (astronomy); in particular, applicants with a strong background in machine learning will be considered, with or without experience in astrophysics.
Specifically, the appointee will join the Australian National University, College of Engineering and Computer Science, School of Computing’s Astro-Machine-Learning group under Assoc. Prof. Yuan-Sen Ting. The group is part of the Computational Science Cluster of the School. The Astro-Machine-Learning is a close-knit research team, specialising in tackling cutting-edge problems in big-data astronomy through the lens of machine learning planning, with multiple research collaborations across disciplines at ANU, CSIRO and Data61. This setting allows us to focus on fundamental research while leveraging the expertise and domain knowledge from both the Research School of Astrophysics and Astronomy and the School of Computing at the ANU.
The successful candidate will have priority access to the research group’s 16 A100 GPUs and the group's large allocation on the National Computational Infrastructure (40M service units or >100,000 GPU hours per year) to explore any large-scale machine learning problems.
