Job Description

The laboratory GEPI at the Observatory of Paris invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral position in Galactic astrophysics, funded through the Centre National d'Études Spatiales.

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to work on the investigation of the physical properties of disrupting clusters using Gaia data combined with spectroscopic data from the ground and using numerical simulations to investigate physical processes at play in the population of the Milky Way disk. The work will be done in collaboration with the LESIA laboratory also at the Observatoire of Paris, and the Laboratoire d'Astrophysique de Bordeaux. Involved team: L. Casamiquela, P. Di Matteo, M. Haywood, D. Katz, D. Reese, Y. Lebreton, C. Soubiran.

To qualify for this position you must have a PhD degree in Physics or equivalent. The degree needs to be obtained by the starting date. Additional qualifications include a background in Galactic physics. Experience with the analysis of Gaia data, and with the use of astrophysical codes and general programming skills are considered an advantage.

The laboratory will ensure that the candidate will have all the necessary support (computing power, IT support, administrative and financial support) to carry out the project. Monthly gross salary: between 2.990 and 4.204 euros depending on previous experience.

Applications should be written in English and be compiled into a PDF-file containing: CV with list of publications, statement of past/future research (max 2 pages), contact details of two referees to be contacted for reference letters.

The PDF should be submitted through the job application portal. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, with priority consideration given to those received by February 29th, 2024.
