Job Description

Steward Observatory seeks to fill a postdoctoral position to support the NIRCam and MIRI teams for JWST, subject to available funds. The scientific focus will be to support an approved HST program and guaranteed time programs with JWST.  Experience in reducing high contrast observations of debris disks and in modeling the resulting resolved images of them is a high priority. The position will be immersed within a rich astrophysical environment. SO is a member of the interdisciplinary Theoretical Astrophysics Program. The new University-wide Research Data Center provides access to high-end, local supercomputing resources (up to ~ 380 TFLOPS) including distributed, shared-memory, and GPU architectures. Observational facilities at SO include the 2x8.4m Large Binocular Telescope, the 6.5m MMT, and the twin 6.5m Magellan telescopes. The position is at a salary from $65,000 to $72,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
