Job Description

The Space Telescope Science Institute invites applications for a Postdoctoral Position to work with Dr. Andrew Fruchter on astrophysical transients. In this position, you will contribute to a new, large Hubble Space Telescope program to study electromagnetic signals from gravitational mergers as well as programs using HST and the Chandra X-ray observatory to investigate the energetics and astrophysical origins of gamma-ray bursts. You will likely have opportunities to join projects in other areas including tidal disruption events, superluminous supernovae and supernova cosmology. You will be encouraged to lead projects of your own.

While at STScI, you can take advantage of the career mentoring program, interactions with the Johns Hopkins University research staff, and a stimulating work environment rich in colloquia, journal clubs, symposia, and learning opportunities related to the missions supported by STScI (HST, JWST, WFIRST, and MAST).

By the start date, you should have a Ph.D. in astrophysics or related field and some experience with astrophysical observations. The initial appointment is for two years, starting no later than October 2019. We expect funds to be available for a third year. Applications received by January 10, 2019 are assured full consideration.

Prospective applicants should complete an on-line application through: https://stsci.slideroom.com/#/permalink/program/46661

Please submit a single PDF file which includes:
A concise cover letter detailing your research interests and relevant expertise
A summary of current and previous research (limited to 3 pages)
