The Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (KIAA) at Peking University invites applications for postdoctoral research appointments. The appointment will be for two years, renewable for a third year subject to a performance evaluation and the availability of funding.
We seek qualified applicants to work with Professor Li-Xin Li on topics related to neutron star mergers. In particular, we are interested in the following key problems: (1) Nuclear reaction and nucleosynthesis in neutron star mergers; (2) Radiative transfer and the origin of opacities in the ejecta of neutron star mergers; (3) Gravitational waves generated by the merger of double neutron stars, or a neutron star and a black hole. Applicants with experience in the field outlined above are especially encouraged to apply.
Astrophysics at Peking University includes a total of 25 faculty, 35 postdoctoral fellows, 60 graduate students, 120 undergraduates, and many visiting scholars. KIAA is located on the historic grounds of Peking University, has English as the working language, and regularly sponsors thematic workshops and conferences to provide a platform for national and international scientific exchanges. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or related fields completed or expected by the effective date, and a demonstrated record of research excellence. Candidates of any nationality are encouraged to apply.
