Applications are invited for one FAPESP postdoctoral fellowship on stellar activity, in the research group of Prof. Jorge Melendez, at the Astronomy Department of the Univ. Sao Paulo (USP), in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The postdoctoral scholar will study the effects of stellar magnetic activity, using spectroscopic indexes such as the H and K lines, under the supervision of Prof. Jorge Melendez (http://www.astro.iag.usp.br/~jorge/). The successful applicant could use data from different facilities such as HARPS/ESO, ESPRESSO/ESO and HIRES/Keck, and also gather data using new Brazilian facilities such as the STELES spectrograph at the 4m SOAR telescope (more details on the FAPESP project approved for the position at http://www.astro.iag.usp.br/~jorge/postdoc2019_01_spectroscopy.pdf).
Candidates must have previous experience on stellar activity, and should hold a PhD granted between 2013/9 - 2019/8. The fellow can pursue an independent research program for up to half of his/her time. The position is funded by FAPESP for three years (2 years + 1 year contingent on performance). The starting date is between August to November 2019. Monthly salary (tax free) is R$7373 (about US$1800). The postdoc research/travel budget is R$13271 per year. Airfare + R$7373 (to help with relocation) will be paid for fellows from abroad.
