Postdoctoral position on strong micro gravitational lensing and time delay cosmography
Job Summary
Compensation and Benefits
Your mission:
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position on strong and micro gravitational lensing as well as time delay cosmography with lensed quasars and transients.
The successful candidate(s) will be based at EPFL in Switzerland and is expected to show expertise in lens modeling (and finding), galaxy dynamics and inverse problems in general. Observational skill in imaging and spectroscopy will be seen a major plus, in particular the interpretation of time-domain observations and 2D spectroscopy. He/she will join the group of F. Courbin, i.e. 6 PhD students and 5 postdocs. Close collaboration with the TDCOSMO team is expected, with links with MPA, Liège University, UCLA, Stanford.
Main duties and responsibilities include:
- Participate to time delay cosmography work at all levels: modeling, observations, data analysis
- Carry out observations in observatories in Chile in the context of lens monitoring
- Work with master students on topics of your choice, in coordination with the group leader
Your profile:
You have expertise in strong and micro gravitational lensing and/or with galaxy dynamics and are eager to work at the frontier between modeling and observations. Python skills are more than necessary and knowledge of JAX and automated differentiation would be a plus. Being at ease with the writing of scientific papers is mandatory.
We offer:
A stimulating, dynamic, interdisciplinary and international working environment
An internationally visible and rising academic institution in Research, Education and Innovation,
A privileged contact with state-of-the-art technological developments.
