Job Description

We invite applications for a postdoctoral research position funded by the ERC Consolidator Grant DEMOBLACK (PI: Michela Mapelli). The DEMOBLACK team investigates the formation channels of stellar-origin binary black holes.

Candidates with experience in computational astrophysics and/or software development are encouraged to apply. We are particularly seeking for candidates with experience in one of the following areas:
- binary population synthesis and binary star evolution,
- star cluster dynamics, direct N-body codes, and hydrodynamics codes.

Successful candidates will join an active research team, working in the vibrant research environment of the University of Padua. Enquiries about the scientific project and the position can be addressed to Michela Mapelli: [email protected]
More details about the research group can be found at http://demoblack.com/

The starting date is flexible, but should be within June 1st 2023. Applicants must have a PhD (in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, or equivalent degree), or are expected to obtain their PhD by the time of the appointment. The appointment is for 2 years, with a possible 1-year extension.

Applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interests (maximum 3 pages), complete list of publications, and arrange to have two letters of recommendation sent to prof.
