Job Description

The Astronomy Department at the Universidad de Concepcion announces a postdoctoral position to work with Douglas Geisler and Sandro Villanova.
Our group focuses on nearby stellar populations, especially ages and abundances of star clusters, and is heavily involved in the SDSS-IV APOGEE-2 survey. The postdoc may have responsibilities in a variety of areas such as performing detailed abundance analysis of high-resolution optical/IR spectra of late-type stars, analyzing data derived from the APOGEE-2 and/or Gaia-ESO surveys, assisting in target selection or observing for APOGEE-2, analyzing photometry, etc. Candidates are also encouraged to craft their own research program and will have access to the 10% of observing time reserved for Chilean institutes at all observational facilities operating in Chile, including VLT, Gemini-South, Magellan, and ALMA. Further information can be obtained at http://www.astroudec.cl or from D. Geisler. The position is initially for 2 years but could be extended depending on funding and is available immediately.

Interested candidates should submit a CV, statement of research interests, and the names and email addresses of three professional references, all in a single pdf file with your last name as title, to Douglas Geisler via email ([email protected]) by October 31.
