Job Description

Applicants are sought for a postdoctoral researcher or senior postdoctoral researcher position at Louisiana State University to work in the area of time-domain, multimessenger astrophysics. The researcher will work in Professor Eric Burns's group on analysis of on-going high energy missions, multi-mission data analysis, and software and theoretical development to support these efforts. Remote work may be considered but requires prior approval of administration before employment may begin.

The primary focus will be to understand transient events that are, or may be, sources of multiple messengers, e.g. gamma-ray bursts, core-collapse supernova, magnetar giant flares, etc. This can be achieved through theory and/or simulation advancement, and multi-mission data analysis. A key goal of this work is interdisciplinary results with other fields of physics, such as gravitation and supranuclear matter. Additionally, the researcher will assist in the mentoring graduate students, develop software related to the primary scientific goals, and to publish papers and present at conferences. National and international travel may be required.

The senior postdoctoral research will additionally be expected to lead independent research projects related to the core science goals of the group. Expansion of the existing areas of expertise is ideal; mentor graduate students, play a key role in the development of software related to the primary scientific goals, and to publish papers and present at conferences.

QualificationsPhD in physics or related field with Experience in a related field, e.g. astrophysics, gravitation, dense matter. Senior level requires 3 years of related experience.

Please provide letter of application, resume, and three professional references including name, title, phone number and e-mail address. A copy of your transcript(s) may be attached to your application (if available). However, original transcripts are required prior to hire.
