Job Announcement Text:

The Astronomy Nucleus at Universidad Diego Portales (UDP) invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position within the New Worlds Lab group led by Prof. James Jenkins, under an ESO-Chile Comité Mixto grant. The successful applicant will study the atmospheres of transiting planets in the Neptunian Desert. The candidate will spend the majority of their time analysing data from the Characterising Exoplanets Satellite, whilst a fraction of their time can be spent on independent projects. Postdoctoral researchers within the Astronomy Nucleus are eligible to apply for the 10% guaranteed-time available to national institutions on all telescope facilities in the country.

For researchers interested in the study of exoplanets, the Astronomy Nucleus fosters an engaging and scientifically productive environment, hosting four faculty members that work directly on planetary sciences with their teams of graduate students and postdocs. Within the wider Santiago area there exists 30+ researchers involved in the study of planets and planet formation, distributed across six institutions, giving rise to a vibrant community of highly focused researchers. Prof. Jenkins is also a PI of the largest astronomy research grant in the country, the Center for Astrophysics and Associated Technologies (CATA), and the candidate will have the opportunity to interact with various CATA members. Access to a wide array of precision instrumentation is also notable, such as ESPRESSO, CRIRES+, HARPS, NIRPS and PFS.

Applications should be submitted by email in PDF format to [email protected] by December 1st, 2022 to ensure full consideration, and should include a 1-page research statement (including current and previous research), and a CV that includes a full publication list. In addition, applicants should provide the names and contact information of 3 references willing to provide letters of recommendation on request.

Included Benefits:
