Job Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level with a research emphasis in multi-messenger and time-domain astrophysics. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in independently funded research characterized by creativity and vision in the areas of multi-messenger (multi-wavelength electromagnetic waves, gravitational waves, and neutrino signals) and time-domain astrophysics, and will have a strong commitment to excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will also play an important role in the newly established Nevada Center for Astrophysics (NCfA), which has multi-messenger and time-domain astrophysics as the recent focus of development. The core members of NCfA are also members of the astronomy group of Department of Physics and Astronomy (https://www.physics.unlv.edu/research_astro.html), who have research expertise in theoretical modeling and observations in the areas of astrophysical transients, black holes, neutron stars, accretion disks, jets, protoplanetary disks, exoplanets, and cosmology. The successful candidate is encouraged to communicate and collaborate with center members while developing their independent research programs. This position requires a PhD in astronomy or physics from a regionally accredited college or university. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.
