Support NASA Missions! The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is a multi-mission science and flight operations center for NASA’s flagship observatories. STScI has an immediate opening for a Senior Software Engineer in the SI Calibration Software Branch (SCSB) in the Data Management Division. The SCSB is responsible for the development and operational maintenance of SI calibration pipeline software for the all missions, including the James Webb (JWST) and Hubble (HST) Space Telescopes. This team provides high quality software following an open development model as a service to the scientific community. They help the astronomical community turn ideas into science!

In this position, you will be you will be working as part of a team to maintain the Calibration Reference Data System (CRDS) for all STScI missions.

Your primary responsibilities in this job include:

· Developing and maintaining CRDS

· Developing cloud-based solutions for processing of large data sets

· Optimizing software for performance in a cloud-based environment

Qualifications:

· Experience with Django

· Experience with front end languages and frameworks

· Experience with building, deploying and using cloud-based applications

· Expertise in using Python with familiarity of open source libraries

· Familiarity with SQL database

· Familiarity using Git in a team setting

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential

This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Residence in order to meet ITAR requirements.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation Range
$120,000USD to $145,000USD
