Job Description

The Dudley Observatory is a nationally recognized, 160-year-old, nonprofit institution that is dedicated to astronomy education, outreach, and history in New York’s Capital District. Dudley Observatory is located on the Siena College campus in Loudonville, New York-just 10 minutes from the state capital of Albany. Siena College is a private, liberal arts college whose three PhD astronomers within the Department of Physics and Astronomy host active research programs in galactic and extragalactic astronomy and the department has a campus observatory with a 0.7-m Planewave telescope. Dudley Observatory been an active participant in the Astronomical Society of New York and with local organizations such as the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers.

Dudley Observatory is seeking a Full Time Chief Astronomer. This position will promote science and astronomy education throughout the Capital Region and will create/host astronomy outreach and education programs for K-12 students and adults, in conjunction with the Siena School of Science. The successful candidate will work closely with the Capital Region community to promote the Dudley Observatory and Siena College’s public-outreach mission by encouraging community involvement and collaboration among amateur astronomers, university researchers, astronomy students and teachers.
