The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln invites applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor of Practice position to begin in August 2023. We seek a dedicated instructor committed to excellence in education to teach Astronomy and Physics courses. This is a non-tenure line, multiyear renewable position, with the possibility of promotion to Associate and then Full Professor of Practice. The initial appointment is customarily for three years. There are no assigned duties during the summer months, but there are opportunities for summer teaching for additional salary.

Responsibilities will include teaching multiple astronomy and physics courses at all levels in the curriculum, managing Teaching Assistants assigned to the courses, curriculum development, holding at least four office hours per week, and supporting various outreach activities within the department. In addition to teaching, a fraction of the appointment will be devoted to research and outreach (details subject to negotiation), which is expected to include undergraduate students.

The successful candidate will have, at a minimum, a Ph.D. in Astronomy or Physics with at least one year of teaching experience at the level of lecturer or above. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated teaching ability at all levels in the curriculum, including the successful utilization of evidence-based teaching methods. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
