Job Description

The I. Physikalisches Institut, Uni Koeln, specializes in the field of Astrophysics with a focus on submm/far-infrared astronomy. We develop heterodyne instruments, which are used at world-class telescopes like SOFIA (https://www.sofia.usra.edu/) and the future CCAT-prime (http://www.ccatobservatory.org/). In addition to instrument building we also specialize in the calibration, reduction and interpretation of the data returned from our instruments. We are in the process to build a data pipeline and archive, and are seeking a Software Developer/Data Analyst that will help us with this task.

YOUR TASKS
»You will develop a data pipeline and archive that transforms our raw data into science ready data products.
»Improve and maintain our data calibration tools.
»Investigate and Develop algorithms to classify and structure our data, with the goal to gather insights into the systematics of instrumental calibration problems auch as drifts
»Maintain and extend the computer and software infrastructure that hosts our archive, pipeline and housekeeping databases
»Assist the scientific team with your knowledge of state-of-the-art software developing tools

YOUR PROFILE
»a university degree on master level in informatics, physics or similar.
»Proficiency with python (additional knowledge of C++ and/or Fortran would be asset). Good understanding of web-development (e.g. python web-frameworks)
»End-to-end experience with data: querying, aggregation, analysis, and visualization
»Familiar with modern software development standards (tested, version-control, documentation)Proficiency with python (additional knowledge of C++ and/or Fortran »experience in machine-learning (e.g. classification, feature extraction) and agile development would be an asset.

The position is available from now on on a full-time basis. It is limited to two years. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
