Postdoctoral Researcher in High Resolution Spectroscopy

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Michigan, to start Fall 2020. The position will be appointed for one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional years, contingent on positive yearly progress evaluations and the availability of funding.

The postdoc will work on a multi-tiered research program at University of Michigan in high-resolution UV and X-ray spectroscopy of the ISM. Any expertise related to the goals of the program will be considered. Candidates will be evaluated on (1) experience with high resolution spectroscopy tools from any wavelength, (2) science related to the interstellar medium, (3) commitment to fostering an inclusive research environment, and (4) communication skills.

The postdoc will be encouraged to take advantage of resources available at the University of Michigan. This includes institutional access to the twin Magellan 6.5-m telescopes in Chile, the MDM 1.3-m and 2.4-m telescopes on Kitt Peak, the Swift X-ray observatory, the NOEMA millimeter array, and the university’s newly upgraded high-performance computing facilities (~13,000 cores).
