Job Description

A postdoctoral position working on time-domain radio observations is available at the Leonard E. Parker Center for Gravitation, Cosmology, and Astrophysics (CGCA) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), working with Prof. David Kaplan.  Applicants should have a PhD in astrophysics and experience with radio interferometry. The focus will be on data from the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA), the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP), the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), and the Jansky Very Large Array (JVLA).

The CGCA at UWM has active research efforts in astronomy, astrophysics, gravity, and cosmology, with membership in the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, the Zwicky Transient Facility, the GROWTH collaboration, the Murchison Widefield Array, and others. The CGCA also hosts the NANOGrav Physics Frontiers Center. The core group is comprised of 7 faculty (Brady, Chang, Creighton, Erb, Kaplan, Siemens and Wiseman), 8 scientists, 9 postdocs, and 14 graduate students. Profs. Allen and Papa (now at the Albert Einstein Institute, AEI) maintain partial adjunct appointments at UWM, and emeritus faculty Friedman and Parker participate broadly in the academic life of the Center.

The appointment is for two years, with a third year contingent on performance and funding. A start date as soon as March 2019 is possible, but no later than September 2019. Applicants should send a C.V., publication list, and a brief statement of their research interests by email to [email protected], with Radio Postdoc in the subject line. Materials should arrive by January 15, 2019. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to arrive by the January 15 deadline. The position is open until filled, but materials should arrive by the deadline to ensure full consideration.

The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer.
