Job Description

The Tsinghua Center for Astrophysics (THCA) in the Department of Physics at Tsinghua University invites applications for tenure-track or tenured faculty positions in observational, experimental, and theoretical/computational astrophysics.

Tsinghua University, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China, is undergoing a major expansion in its astrophysics program. It is envisioned that THCA will add about 10 new faculty members by 2020. The areas of growth include galaxy formation and evolution, cosmology, high energy astrophysics, exoplanets and planet formation, time domain astrophysics, computational astrophysics and gravitational waves. Successful candidates are expected to initiate vigorous research programs of their own.

The current research at THCA spans a wide range of topics, including cosmic reionization and 21cm cosmology, dark matter and dark energy, galaxy formation and evolution, circumgalactic and intergalactic media, exoplanets and planet formation, active galactic nuclei, supernovae, and X-ray binaries. In addition, the faculty members have been developing instrumentation for X-ray satellite missions, and are also involved in several operating or planned ground-based experiments. Description of individual research programs can be found at the THCA web site (http://astro.tsinghua.edu.cn).

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a related field. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, regardless of gender, national or cultural origins. English is a working language at THCA. The main selection criteria are research accomplishments and potential for future success. A complete application should include a curriculum vita, a list of publications, and a statement of previous research and future plan, all in one PDF file, and be sent via email to: [email protected], by November 30, 2017 to receive full consideration. The applicant should also arrange for three letters of recommendation (five for those applying for tenured positions) to be sent to the same email address prior to the deadline. Successful candidates will be offered competitive salary, startup funding, affordable housing, or lab space for instrumentation R&D. They are expected to start at Tsinghua on September 1, 2018 (although the exact starting date can be negotiated).
