Job Announcement Text:

Prof. Judd Bowman and Prof. Danny Jacobs invite applications for a postdoctoral position to conduct research on low-frequency radio instrumentation and 21 cm cosmology.  The position includes an annual stipend of $62,000 with health benefits. A relocation allowance will be provided.

Observations to detect and characterize the highly-redshifted 21 cm line of neutral hydrogen gas are opening a new window on Cosmic Dawn and reionization.  Recent observations have placed exciting new constraints on the formation and properties of early stars and galaxies.  Major advances are expected over the next three years as the Hydrogen Epoch of Reionization Array (HERA) becomes fully operational.

ASU leads the Experiment to Detect the Global EoR Signature (EDGES) and is a partner institution in HERA.  Our group leads the commissioning efforts for HERA and is active in investigations of foregrounds, as well as power spectrum and imaging analysis.  We have additional projects underway to implement a GPU-based direct imaging correlator for the Long Wavelength Array (LWA), as well as to develop drone-based techniques for in-situ calibration of radio antennas.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to one or more of these projects.

Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in a relevant field by the time of appointment, but received no earlier than 2013. Applicants who received their Ph.D. prior to 2013 will not be considered.

Desired Qualifications: (1) Relevant experience in radio instrumentation, statistical data analysis, and/or software development, (2) a record of prior achievement and experience that shows the applicant's potential to accomplish research objectives, and (3) evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills.

Applicants should submit a single PDF document incorporating the following information: (1) a research statement not longer than five pages including figures and references and (2) a current CV. Applicants should arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted separately.

Application materials and any questions should be submitted by email to [email protected], addressed to Prof. Judd Bowman. Applications will only be considered complete when all materials described above are received. Review of complete applications will begin on December 1, 2017. If not filled, application review will continue until the search is closed. A background check is required for employment.

Arizona State University is a VEVRAA Federal Contractor and an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other basis protected by law.
