The James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona is announcing a faculty search in Optical Engineering with the possibility of multiple hires. The Wyant College of Optical Sciences is the world’s premier optical institute.
Applications are invited from junior, mid-career, and senior candidates. Review of applications will begin on January 1, 2022 and continue until the positions are filled.
This tenure/tenure-track position anticipates demonstrated strength in the area of optical engineering, including:
• Cultivating a world-class research program in optical engineering.
• Establishing a strong teaching record in optical engineering.
• Participating in both undergraduate and graduate education.
• Participating in service and outreach for the College.
Preferred candidates will demonstrate a record of innovation and strength in areas such as optical design, engineering, instrumentation, and systems, with a broad variety of potential application areas including space or astronomical optics, optical metrology, remote sensing, consumer optics, biomedical optics, optics in defense, and optics in manufacturing.
Minimum Qual:
- PhD in Optics, Physical Sciences, Engineering or related field, and teaching or industrial experience in optics is desirable.
Applicants should ideally have a proven track record of teaching and research, including a clear potential to continue or establish a substantial research program in optical engineering that is capable of attracting program funding from industry and/or government. For private sector or government laboratory applicants, lack of a proven record could be remedied with other related credentials, including strong communications skills and leadership or experience in innovative optical engineering and/or building innovative optical hardware.
