The Physics Dept. at PFW invites applications for an exciting Visiting Assistant Professor position in Physics/Astronomy starting Fall 2023. The requirements are a PhD in Physics/Astronomy or closely related areas (including PhD to be awarded). This position will consist of teaching 3-4 courses per semester. These assignments will run the range of undergraduate physics/astronomy courses as well as support classes for other majors. These can cover the core physics curriculum or classes of faculty specialties ranging from sound and music to stars and galaxies. The candidate will receive mentoring and constructive feedback from seasoned faculty to support professional growth.

The Physics Department offers B.S. degrees in Physics (with six concentrations: Astronomy/AstroPhysics, Biomedical, Computational, Engineering, Materials Science, and Optoelectronics and Photonics). We have approximately 70 undergraduate physics majors. We have a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education with heavy involvement of students in research. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the success of our program. (For more information, see: https://pfw.edu/physics).

The Department is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including research, teaching, and service/engagement.  Candidates should address at least one of these areas in their cover letter, indicating their past experiences, current interests or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion.

Submit cover letter, CV, a 1-2 page teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching experience or effectiveness, and three reference letters or contacts for references to https://careers.purdue.edu/FW/go/FW-Faculty/7720100/. Review of applications will start immediately and continue until the position is filled. Candidates invited for an interview will need to prepare a 45-60 minute instructional student presentation in addition to a research presentation suitable for undergraduate students. PFW is an EEO/AA employer fully committed to achieving a diverse workforce. All individuals, including minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and protected veterans are encouraged to apply. The position is contingent on available funding and a satisfactory background records check. Purdue University Fort Wayne will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
