Postdoctoral Research Associate in Extragalactic Astronomy
Job Summary
Job Description
The Observatories of the Carnegie Institution for Science, a non-profit, world-class astronomical institution in Pasadena, California, invites applications for a postdoctoral associate position working with the Carnegie-LCO Galaxies at the Highest Redshifts Project (CGHR) to begin September 1, 2017. This is a fulltime position based at the Las Campanas Observatory (LCO) in Chile.
The Carnegie-LCO Galaxies at the Highest Redshifts project (CGHR) and the LAGER (Lyman Alpha Galaxies in Epoch of Reionization) collaboration have an opening for a postdoctoral position. The CGHR project exploits data from the Hubble Frontier Fields (HFF) program to select and study galaxies at z ≤ 11, and the “LAGER” project is the largest narrow- band (NB964, DECam) survey for Lyman Alpha Emitters (LAEs) at z ≥ 7, over an area of 12 deg2 in 4 fields. Both projects involve follow up spectroscopy, data analysis and modeling.
This appointment will be for two years with a possible third year extension based on performance and funding availability. A Ph.D. in astronomy or physics is required. Previous observational experience with low signal to noise opitcal and near-infrared imaging and spectroscopy is highly desirable.
Applications should consist of a current vita including a list of publications, a statement of experience relevant to this position, and the names of three references that can provide letters of recommendation upon request. Applications must be submitted online at the following URL: https://jobs2.obs.carnegiescience.edu/CGHR
Deadline for applications is July 31, 2017.
